Bio

Blu is an Italian artist about whom little is known publicly. He began to make himself known in 1999 through a series of graffiti executed in Bologna.

His first works, while expressing elements of stylistic originality, were still made with the spray can, typical of traditional writing. Starting from 2001 the artist’s works began to be performed with tempera paints and with the use of rollers mounted on telescopic sticks. This technique allowed him to enlarge the pictorial surface. The subjects are humanoid figures with sarcastic or sometimes dramatic connotations whose imagery seems to be inspired by the world of comics and arcade video games. The collaborations with artists such as Run, Dem, Sweza and Ericailcane, who combined his representations of the animal world with the human subjects painted by Blu, are of the first years. Another fundamental aspect that characterized his beginnings is the practice of pictorial action, and some digital animation experiments.

In 20 years of activity, he travels the world painting wherever possible: South America, North America, Europe, Palestine. In Italy there are several cities where some of his walls are still perfectly preserved today, such as Bologna, Rome, Milan, Naples, Catania. In 2008 the Tate Modern dedicated an entire exhibition to the phenomenon of street art and invited Blu together with Failee other artists to paint a portion of the external facade of the museum. In 2011 The Guardian reported him as one of the ten best street artists around.
