Careof presents “Les grasses matinées”, a project curated by Marta Cereda, on the function of idleness, on the value of time and on the right to nothingness, on the positive connotation of “otium” as an opportunity and not as a disengagement.

From March 31 to April 3, 2022, from 9.30 to 12.30, four days of projections from the Careof Video Archive, which has more than nine thousand titles: over fifty artists talk about contemplation, valorization of time, slowness, inactivity, laziness. On the occasion of Milan Art Week, an opportunity to start the celebrations for Careof’s thirty-fifth birthday, to question the paradigms of efficiency and industriousness, to linger in the vision, drinking a coffee.

“Les grasses matinées” takes its title from the French expression that indicates the days in which one stays in bed late and plays on the definition of matinee as a cinematographic or theatrical show during the day. This saying is exasperated in the exhibition by the setting created by Finemateria, which plays on the contrast between the apparent rigidity of the volumes and the flexible and soft materials with which the seats are made.

The project is completed by a musical background created by Orchestra Futuro, which chooses radical amateurism as a weapon against the work ethic, embodying positions located outside – or after – the capitalist imperatives of production and reproduction.
