THURMAN

Blair Thurman (New Orleans, USA, 1961) lives and works in New York. His artistic research is characterized by the presence of simplified shapes and in particular of ellipsoidal and curvilinear curves that recall the car circuits to which the artist is particularly attached since childhood and which are also perfectly linked to the American culture of the road and to the races of the oval circuits prevalent mainly in America. Beyond the shaped paintings, Blair Thurman expresses through the neon production, with an use of vibrant colors and sinuous shapes evoking writings, drawings, signs, his proximity to the world of mass culture, pop art and minimalism. Thurman boasts a prolific career with international performances.

Blair Thurman has opened solo exhibitions at the Gagosian Gallery, New York; at the Galerie Frank Elbaz, Paris; Galerie lange + pult, Zurich; Almine Rech, London, England and at the MAGASIN National Center for Contemporary Art in Grenoble. He also exhibited at the 46th Venice Biennale in 1995. His works can be found in important collections around the world. He has participated in museum exhibitions at the Kanal – Center Pompidou, Brussels; Le Magasin — Center National d’Art Contemporain, France; and “Honeybadgers,” Oklahoma City Museum of Art, Oklahoma.
